Prime Video cancels ‘The Runarounds’ abruptly after airing one season

Prime Video has cancelled The Runarounds after just one season ending the coming-of-age music drama months after its debut.

The series created by Jonas Pate and Josh Pate known for Outer Banks premiered in September but had remained in limbo regarding its future until now.

Centred around a real-life band formed for the show The Runarounds followed a group of young musicians chasing their breakthrough while navigating relationships, setbacks and the pressures of early adulthood.

The band members William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zende Murdock and Jesse Golliher confirmed the cancellation in a joint statement on social media.

“While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay,” they wrote adding that the project marked “the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.”

The group originally formed in 2021 following a casting call tied to Outer Banks continues to perform together and is currently touring outside of the show.

The ensemble cast also included Lilah Pate, Brooklyn Decker and Mark Wystrach among others.

Before its cancellation Jonas Pate had outlined an ambitious multi-season arc for the series.

The plan included following the band’s journey from small regional tours in a van to larger venues, international shows and eventually stadium performances.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television the show blended original music with a coming-of-age narrative set over a transformative summer.

Despite its early end the creators’ concept of charting a band’s rise through multiple stages of fame will remain unrealised on screen.
