Ravi Kishan defends Dhurandhar, rejects propaganda claims

Lucknow: Actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan has strongly defended the blockbuster Dhurandhar The Revenge, dismissing criticism that labels the film as propaganda and urging audiences to support it.

Film crosses ₹1000 crore mark

The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, has emerged as a massive box office success, recently entering the ₹1,000 crore club on its third Sunday. It is now counted among the fastest Indian films to achieve this milestone, alongside major hits like Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Despite its commercial success, Dhurandhar The Revenge has faced criticism from a section of viewers who argue that its narrative leans towards propaganda.

“Calling it propaganda is wrong”

Responding to the criticism during a visit to Lucknow, Ravi Kishan expressed disappointment over such remarks. He said that labelling films as propaganda has become a growing trend and should be discouraged.

“Calling it a propaganda film is very wrong. Actors from the South supported it openly, and everyone should do that. A new trend has started of calling films propaganda,” he remarked.

Boost for struggling film industry

Ravi Kishan also highlighted the film’s positive impact on the film industry, which has been facing challenges in recent years. He noted that Dhurandhar The Revenge has played a key role in bringing audiences back to theatres.

He pointed out that the success of such films benefits not only mainstream cinema but also regional industries, including Bhojpuri films, which he said are currently struggling.

“Lakhs of people depend on cinema for their livelihood. This film has come as a blessing for the industry,” he added.

Cinema and society

Drawing comparisons with classics like Sholay, Ravi Kishan emphasised that filmmakers often draw inspiration from real-life events and present them cinematically.

He also stressed the importance of cinema in reflecting society and revisiting historical narratives. According to him, films can play a role in bringing lesser-known aspects of history and truth to the forefront through research and storytelling.

Ongoing debate

While Dhurandhar The Revenge continues its impressive theatrical run, debates around its themes and messaging persist. Supporters view it as impactful storytelling rooted in real events, while critics remain concerned about its perceived ideological undertones.

Conclusion

As the discussion continues, voices like Ravi Kishan’s reflect a broader sentiment within sections of the industry—supporting creative freedom while encouraging audiences to engage with films with an open mind. The film’s box office performance, meanwhile, underscores its widespread appeal and cultural impact.
