Jammu Kashmir Police: Police surgical strike on drugs in Kulgam, 10 FIRs in 3 weeks, 14 smugglers arrested and big network exposed
News India Live, Digital Desk: Police has achieved a major success on Monday (6 April 2026) against the increasing menace of drugs in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. During the intensive operation being conducted for the last three weeks under the leadership of SSP Anayat Ali Choudhary, the police have registered 10 cases under the NDPS Act and busted a big inter-district drug syndicate and sent 14 smugglers behind the bars. Huge quantity of narcotics and cash recovered. In this operation conducted by Kulgam Police, police stations Qazigund and Devsar together have recovered a huge consignment. The details of the seizures are as follows: Heroin: 415.61 grams (high quality). Charas: 1348 grams (in powder and solid form). Cannabis: 1.5 kg (dry leaves). Cash: ₹ 1,37,990 cash earned through smuggling. Backward Linkages: The smuggling strings extend to Jammu. The biggest achievement of this operation is the uncovering of backward and forward linkages. Jammu Connection: Qazigund Police (FIR 43/2026) arrested two smugglers (Mohammed Rafiq Mir and Bagh Hussain) when they raided Kurigam. During interrogation, it was revealed that the main source of this smuggling is Baili Chirana area of Jammu. Raid in Jammu: A special team of Kulgam Police conducted a raid in Jammu and recovered 262 grams of additional heroin from there. This made it clear that this is an organized network that supplies narcotics between Kashmir and Jammu.Case-wise key arrestsPolice have arrested several notorious smugglers in separate FIRs:Rasiq Ahmed Padder (Verinag): Arrested with 163 grams of charas from Furrah.Mohammed Idris Ghani (Furrah): Caught with 205 grams of charas from Khrewan Lassi Pora. Gaya. Maqsood Ahmed Naikoo (Nasu Badragund): Caught with 310 grams of hashish. Husband-wife duo: Mohammad Mantu Shaikh and his wife Samina Khatoon (Delhi resident) from Nava Qazigund were arrested with heroin and hashish. Administration’s ‘zero tolerance’ and appeal SSP Kulgam has made it clear that any person involved in drug trafficking, be it a financier or a harborer, will be arrested. Will not be spared. Earlier in February, the police had also attached assets (shops and warehouses) worth Rs 1.5 crore of a big smuggler. Police have appealed to the public to cooperate in making ‘Drug Free Kashmir’ and share information about smugglers, their identities will be kept secret.
