Remo D’Souza begins work on new dance film, ABCD 3 likely
Mumbai: Filmmaker and choreographer Remo D’Souza has reportedly begun work on a new dance-based film, which is likely to be titled ABCD 3, continuing his popular franchise.
Revival of a successful dance franchise
Remo first introduced the dance film genre in Bollywood with ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, a film that stood out for its fresh concept and lack of a major star cast. Despite competition from Special 26 starring Akshay Kumar, the film opened at around Rs 5.50 crore and went on to earn approximately Rs 45.50 crore in its lifetime.
The sequel, ABCD 2, featuring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor, proved to be an even bigger success, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.
New film in development
According to industry sources, the upcoming project will be produced by Amit Chandrra under Trigger Happy Studios. The team has reportedly finalised a strong concept and is currently working on the screenplay.
Remo is said to be carefully adapting the film to suit evolving audience tastes, especially keeping Gen Z and Gen Alpha viewers in mind. With increased exposure to global dance styles and digital content, expectations from dance films have significantly changed since the last instalment.
Possible return of original characters
There are also indications that the new film could revisit characters from the original ABCD (2013), potentially making it a continuation of the first instalment. However, this aspect has not yet been officially confirmed.
Remo’s journey in cinema
Remo D’Souza began his career as a choreographer before transitioning into direction with the Bengali film Lal Pahare’r Katha (2007). He made his Hindi directorial debut with F.A.L.T.U. (2011) and went on to direct films like A Flying Jatt, Race 3, and Street Dancer 3D.
His most recent dance-based project, Be Happy, was released on Amazon Prime Video.
Conclusion
With a proven track record in the dance genre and a fresh approach tailored to new-age audiences, Remo D’Souza’s upcoming film could mark a significant return for the ABCD franchise. Fans of dance cinema will be keenly watching for official announcements regarding the cast and storyline.
