Sikkim Landslide: Heavy snowfall and landslide in Mangan, Sikkim, tourists stranded, rescue underway
Sikkim Landslide: The road leading from Lachen to Chungthang in Mangan district of Sikkim, famous for tourism, has been closed due to heavy snowfall and damage by landslides. There are reports of 1500 tourists stranded here after landslides and snowfall. Due to breakage of the road connecting Lachen-Chungthang in Mangan district, traffic there has been completely stopped.

According to reports, officials shared information on Sunday that the road near Tarun Chu bridge on Chungthang Road has been damaged. He said that the Mangan district administration has issued a public advisory and temporarily closed the roads near this bridge.
Higher officials had asked the tourists to wait till Monday. Today the work of evacuating all the people has been started. This has been planned provided the weather conditions improve and success is achieved in clearing the snow from the route.
The stranded tourists have been accommodated in local hotels and government facilities. Sources said that the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is working to remove the debris, but the work is being hampered due to intermittent rains.
