Delhi Assembly Security Breach: Car Rams Barricade, Driver Detained
In a major lapse, a white Tata Sierra with Uttar Pradesh registration broke through an iron barricade at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Monday afternoon, entered the complex through Gate No. 2, and remained inside for nearly five minutes before driving out.
Witnesses said the driver briefly stopped near the porch outside Speaker Vijender Gupta’s office, placed a bouquet, and then sped away. The bouquet was later examined and found harmless. Authorities have since traced the vehicle and taken the driver into custody.
The incident has sparked serious concerns about security protocols, as the car managed to breach a VIP gate guarded by CRPF personnel, create commotion inside, and exit through the same gate. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud thud around 2 pm as the gate broke open.
Officials are now reviewing access points, questioning staff present during the breach, and tightening entry protocols. The episode has prompted calls for stricter monitoring and enhanced emergency checks at the Assembly premises.
