‘Ramayana’s’ ‘Blue turban guy’ is real actor Saket Patel, not AI

A background actor in the teaser of Ramayana went viral online after viewers noticed the color of his turban appeared to change in different shots. Many online users speculated that the scene might have been generated using artificial intelligence.

The actor, Saket Patel, addressed the claims in a video message. “I’m Saket Patel. I am an actor, and believe me, I’m not AI,” he said, dismissing the online speculation.

Patel explained that the sequence was filmed with real people and practical sets. “People are fully convinced that I’m AI-generated. I shot this two years ago with a real crowd, a real set, and real Ranbir Kapoor in front of me,” he said. He added that in 2026, if something looks too perfect, people often call it fake.

He also shared the video on Instagram and X, captioning it: “Hi, I’m Saket Patel – the ‘blue turban guy’ is not AI. Real shoot, real people, real effort. Maybe it’s time we appreciate the work instead of questioning everything. Respect the work that goes into filmmaking.”

The Ramayana project was produced on a reported budget of Rs 4,000 crore. Producer Namit Malhotra told Prakhar Gupta that when they started planning the film six or seven years ago, people thought the scale was impossible. “Put simply, the budget will be around $500 million for both parts combined, which is over Rs 4,000 crore. We are making the largest film in the world for the greatest epic, and yet we are doing it efficiently,” he said.

The film Ramayana features Nitesh Tiwari as director and Namit Malhotra as producer and Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.

Ramayana Part I is scheduled for release this Diwali, with the second chapter set to release in Diwali 2027.
