Good news for central employees: Big update on Old Pension Scheme?

New Delhi. Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has become a topic of great discussion for central employees. The demand to re-implement this scheme in the 8th Pay Commission is gaining momentum. Government employees and their organization have also sent a formal letter to the government and the commission regarding this issue, which includes many suggestions related to salary, pension and allowances.

What is the whole matter?

In a letter sent on April 1, 2026, the staff side said that the present memorandum system is limited and does not provide adequate opportunity to the employees to present their views in detail. He says that the process should be made more flexible and expandable so that the Commission can get correct and useful suggestions.

Demand to implement old pension scheme

The staff side has expressed concern over the National Pension System (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). He says that employees should not be kept in contribution based pension and the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) should be re-implemented.

Special provisions for women employees

It has also been suggested to provide special facilities for women employees on issues like security, maternity benefits, menstrual leave and child care leave.

Focus on departmental issues

Every department has its own problems. Therefore, a demand has been raised to provide facility for giving department-specific suggestions. Also, an appeal has been made to extend the last date for sending suggestions till May 31, 2026, so that all organizations can deliberate and send suggestions in the right manner.
