Strict instructions from the court

The Supreme Court has directed the state government to cooperate fully with the CBI. Also, the Chief Secretary has been asked to appoint a nodal officer, who will coordinate with the investigating agency. The court clearly said that no record related to the investigation should be destroyed.

CBI will do preliminary investigation

Under the court order, CBI will first register a preliminary investigation (PE). In this, the contracts awarded between November 2015 to 2025 and the process of their implementation will be examined.
The state government has been asked to comply with the order within a week. The Supreme Court has directed CBI to file a status report within 16 weeks. In this it will be made clear whether there is a need for a detailed and independent investigation in the matter or not.

What are the allegations?

The petitioners allege that between 2015 and 2025, contracts worth about Rs 1,245 crore were awarded to firms linked to the chief minister’s family—companies belonging to his wife, mother and nephew—without due process. Apart from this, it has also been claimed that the CM’s nephew Tsering Tashi, who is the MLA from Tawang and also a company owner, was also given contracts ignoring the rules. Now the preliminary investigation by CBI in this matter will make it clear how much truth is there in the allegations and whether there will be a need for a bigger investigation.
