Big shock in Air India: CEO Campbell Wilson resigns, board approves, search for new CEO begins!
Mumbai: Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tata Group-owned airline Air India, has resigned from his post. Wilson was appointed CEO and Managing Director (MD) of Air India in July 2022. Earlier, Turkish Airlines Chairman Ilker Ayci had refused to accept the post in March 2022 due to a dispute. Tata Group had acquired Air India from the government in January 2022.
According to the source, “He (Campbell) expressed his desire to resign, informed the board about it and then resigned.” There is no official response from Air India on this development yet. Earlier this year, a source had said that the Tata group was looking for a suitable candidate to lead Air India as Wilson’s five-year tenure was set to end in 2027.
Air India Express, its low-cost subsidiary, also has the post of chief vacant since March 19 when the then managing director Alok Singh resigned after completing his five-year tenure. Wilson had been under fire since June 12 last year, when a London-bound flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. In this accident, 241 out of 242 people aboard the Boeing 787-8 aircraft died.
