Heinrich Klaasen Identifies the X-Factor SRH Needs to Turn Their IPL 2026 Season Around:
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had a rollercoaster start to their IPL 2026 campaign. Despite having one of the most explosive batting lineups on paper, the 2016 champions have managed only one win in their first three matches. After recent setbacks against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), star batter Heinrich Klaasen has broken his silence on what exactly is going wrong and how the team can bounce back.
The Batting Paradox: Power vs. Execution
While SRH is known for its “all-out attack” philosophy, Klaasen pointed out that the team has been falling short of par totals. In their recent clash against LSG, the top order collapsed to 35/4, forcing a rescue act.
“Our batting has been good in phases, but we missed out on about 40 runs across these three games. We need to execute better in the middle overs to reach that 220-230 mark, which gives our bowlers a real chance,” Klaasen noted during a recent press interaction.
The “Fielding” Crisis: A 6/10 Performance
Surprisingly, it isn’t just the bowling or batting that’s hurting the Sunrisers. Klaasen was candid about the team’s lackluster effort on the field. He rated the team’s fielding a meager 6 out of 10highlighting that dropped catches and missed run-out opportunities are costing them matches in “crunch moments.”
Learning from Past Mistakes
A key shift in SRH’s strategy this year, according to Klaasen, is the approach of the middle order. Following a dominant win against KKR, Klaasen explained that they are no longer just “swinging from ball one.”
With Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma providing fiery starts, the middle order, including Klaasen and young sensation Nitish Kumar Reddyis now focusing on rotating the strike and settling in before launching a counterattack. This tactical maturity is what Klaasen believes will stabilize their season.
The Road Ahead for Pat Cummins’ Side
Despite the two losses, Klaasen remains optimistic, stating it is “still early days.” For SRH to climb the points table, the formula is clear:
Improve fielding efficiency immediately.
Ensure the top-order collapse is a one-off event.
Support the pacers by putting massive totals on the board.
