Tamim Iqbal Becomes Interim Head After Bulbul Exit
The former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal has been named as the interim BCB head, stepping into an overhaul of the existing set-up after weeks of mounting unrest and resignations.
The Bangladesh Government has appointed former opening batter Tamim Iqbal after Aminul Islam Bulbul was removed on Tuesday by the country’s National Sports Council (NSC), which formed an ad-hoc committee to run the day-to-day affairs till fresh elections are held.
Bulbul was removed primiarily due to the fiasco during the T20 World Cup where interim government advisor Asif Nazrul literally held the former advisor Asif Nazrul literally held the former skipper hostage and didn’t allow the national team to visit India for 2026 T20 World Cup.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to inform that, following a review of recent developments and in the best interest of the organisation, the BCB President has decided to release Mr Najmul Islam from his responsibilities as Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect,” the board had said in an official release.
Nazrul’s stand was to shift Bangladesh’s games from Kolkata and Mumbai to Sri Lanka as a mark of protest for the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL.
During the whole issue, Bulbul was a mere bystander, and over the past few days, six directors of the BCB resigned because of him.
There was also a serious concerns about the BCB elections held last year. An investigation was launched over claims of misuse of power and irregularities.
Aminul responded by saying he was not involved in any wrongdoing and had followed the rules. He added that he had submitted his reply in writing as he could not attend the committee meeting.
Tamim Iqbal become the youngest BCB chief and will lead an 11-member ad-hoc committee that includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and former cricketer and TV commentators Athar Ali Khan.

The government’s investigation committee made its recommendation during a press briefing at the sports ministry, where they spoke in detail about their findings about the BCB elections.
