CRISIL Report: Non-Veg becomes cheaper, no change in Veg thali; The latest report surprised everyone

CRISIL Report Thali Cost 2026: Due to the wars going on everywhere in the world, the pockets of the common people of India have also been greatly affected. Now in this context, according to the latest report of CRISIL, the impact of inflation on the common man’s kitchen in March 2026 was mixed. While some essential items became expensive, many food items became cheaper and did not have a major impact on the overall expenditure. The cost of vegetarian thali remained stable, while non-vegetarian thali became cheaper by 1%.

Tomato is expensive, but the effect is balanced

The main reason for the stagnation of vegetarian thali is the sharp increase in the prices of tomatoes. Tomato which was available at Rs 21 per kg in March 2025 will now become Rs 28 per kg, i.e. an increase of 33%. The reason for this was delay in sowing of crops and less supply in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. However, falling prices of other vegetables balanced this effect.

Onion and potatoes gave relief

Despite the inflation of tomatoes, a big fall in the prices of onion and potatoes provided relief. Onion has become cheaper by 25% and potato by 13%. The main reasons behind this were bumper production, low exports and weak demand from hotels and restaurants. These falling prices played an important role in keeping the total cost of thali under control.

Why did non-veg thali become cheaper?

Chicken (broiler) constitutes about 50% of the cost of non-vegetarian thali. This time the price of broiler has declined by 2%, due to which the price of non-veg thali has reduced by 1% on an annual basis. This is also believed to be the result of ‘high bass effect’.

Gas and oil increased expenses

Despite the relief, some important things have increased the expenditure. Due to global supply problems, the price of edible oil has become costlier by 6% and LPG cylinder by 14%. Apart from this, prices of pulses remained controlled due to excess stock. If gas and oil had not been expensive, the cost of the plate could have been further reduced.
