The rain-affected evening in Guwahati turned into an exciting but one-sided contest when Rajasthan Royals (RR) by Mumbai Indians (MI) Had a great performance against. Led by a brilliant innings from Yashasvi Jaiswal and an efficient bowling effort, RR won by 27 runs, continuing their strong run of form in IPL 2026.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi took charge of the batting of Rajasthan Royals.
Asked to bat first in a reduced contest, Rajasthan Royals wasted no time in proving their mettle. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi batted with fearless intent, surprising the MI bowlers. From the very first over, Jaiswal expressed his intentions with aggression, which set the tone for the game going forward.
The pair put up a brilliant partnership of 80 runs in just five overs, giving Rajasthan complete control. Jaiswal looked in great form, timing the ball beautifully and finding the gaps with ease. His unbeaten 77, off 32 balls, was an excellent example of controlled aggression, consisting of 10 fours and 4 lofted sixes.
Suryavanshi, despite her young age, showed amazing composure and confidence. His explosive innings of 39 runs in 14 balls put immense pressure on the MI bowling attack. A key moment came when he faced Jasprit Bumrah and hit two sixes in the first over – this shows his fearless approach.
Although MI grabbed a few wickets in the middle overs, Jaiswal ensured that there was no let up in the pace. He treasured the innings and took RR to a strong score of 150/3 in just 11 overs, which was always going to look challenging in a brief game.
Royals bowlers rise to the top, Mumbai Indians batsmen look for solutions
Chasing a high target is never easy in a rain-shortened game, and MI felt the pressure early on. RR bowlers started with a clear plan and executed it perfectly, taking quick wickets and disrupting Mumbai’s run almost immediately.
The top order crumbled under pressure as key players failed to score runs. MI found themselves struggling at 22/3 in the first three overs, losing key wickets of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickleton cheaply. This initial loss proved too much to recover.
RR’s bowling attack maintained tight lines and did not allow any breathing space. Ravi Bishnoi played a vital role in breaking the middle order, taking important wickets at the right time. Sandeep Sharma supported him well, using his experience to keep things tight and deliver important breakthroughs.
Although there were signs of slight resistance from Sherfane Rutherford and Naman Dheer, the required run rate was already out of control. RR’s bowlers remained disciplined till the end, restricting MI to 123/9 to ensure a convincing win.
