Women should pay special attention to their diet during periods. During this period, hormonal changes occur, which can cause problems like mood swings, abdominal swelling, cramps and fatigue. Some fruits provide relief, while others may aggravate these problems. According to health experts, it is better to avoid certain fruits during periods.

Pineapple: Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which may increase the risk of stomach irritation or heavy bleeding in some women. Therefore, do not eat it in small quantities or at all.

Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits like orange, lemon, lime or grapes are rich in acidity. These can affect the digestive system and increase the problem of bloating and gas. Acidity already increases during periods, so stay away from them.

Raw Banana: Raw banana is heavy to digest and contains high amount of starch. This may cause constipation or flatulence. Ripe bananas are a better option.

Dry Fruits (Mixed Sugar): Dry fruits like raisins and dates, if mixed with sugar, can increase blood sugar. This can cause mood swings and increased fatigue. Plain dry fruits without sugar are fine in limited quantities.

What are the beneficial fruits?

Not all fruits are harmful. Some fruits provide relief during periods. Ripe bananas are rich in potassium and magnesium, which help reduce cramps. Apple is rich in fiber and improves digestion. Berries (strawberries, blueberries) are rich in antioxidants, which reduce inflammation. Kiwi provides vitamin C and fiber, which is helpful in relieving fatigue.

These fruits provide essential nutrition to the body, help in iron absorption and keep the mood better. Include 2-3 servings of fruits daily, but drink more water. What else to keep in mind?

Also reduce salty, sweet, processed and caffeine items during periods. These can increase bloating and mood swings. Eating light warm food, herbal tea and drinking more water is beneficial.
