Billie Jean King Cup: Indonesia beats India, Korea’s winning streak continues

India suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Indonesia in the Billie Jean King Cup Group-1 Asia/Oceania match at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi on Thursday. Indonesia took an unassailable lead by winning both the singles matches, which made India’s journey difficult.
In the first singles, Vaishnavi Adkar fought hard against Prisca Madeline Nugroho, but lost 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 6-3. The match was thrilling, Adkar made a strong comeback in the second set, but Nugroho did wonders in the final set.
In the second singles, Sahaja Yamlapalli was defeated by Janice Tjen 6-2, 6-1, as Indonesia captured the tie. The match between Rutuja Bhosle and Ankita Raina was going on in doubles.
On the other hand, Korea continued their undefeated streak by defeating New Zealand. Daion Baek beat Valentina Ivanova 7-5, 6-3, while Soohyun Park demolished Monique Barrie 6-0, 6-1. Korea and Indonesia top the table.
Thailand defeated Mongolia 3-0. Thasaporn Naklao won 6-1, 6-0, Pacharin Chipchandze scored the same, and doubles pair Pengtarn Plipuech and Kamonwan Yodpetch completed a clean sweep 6-0, 6-0.
The round-robin will continue until Saturday, with the top two teams advancing. India needs a comeback now.
