LSG picked up Mukul after his exploits in last edition of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 173 runs from five innings at a strike-rate of 198.85 for Rajasthan after coming in as an injury replacement for Kartik Sharma.
His knock included a partnership of 54 from 24 balls for the eighth wicket with Avesh Khan to get the team over the line.
Mukul came to the crease at 104 for five with a little more than seven overs to go in the innings. LSG would then slip further to 128 for seven when Avesh came to the crease with Mukul on two from six balls.
It was at this juncture that Mukul took off, farming the strike and smashing nine boundaries from the final four overs. He hit Cameron Green for 16 from the penultimate over of the match, before chasing 14 from the final over against Vaibhav Arora.
Mukul, who was named played of the match, said, “It was only my second match. God has given me this opportunity, there can be pressure but it is also an opportunity to make a name for myself. My aim was to bat till the last and see what happens.”
On his knock, he added, “Even I liked the first six, I had not scored a single six in two games, so the first one was special. In my mind I knew one out of the four balls will be in the slot and I was just waiting for it. From younger days I like hitting sixes and not playing along the ground.”
“Mukul’s (Choudhary) knock took it away from us. The execution here and there can happen in the last two overs but credit to Mukul for that partnership. There were some incredible shots, the way he batted was amazing,” appreciated opposition captain Ajinkya Rahane after the match.
Mukuk’s captain, Rishabh Pant, was equally effusive, saying, “When we see him in the nets, we can see something, but when you do it in the match, it’s amazing. It was a fantastic effort.”
