West Bengal Rally: Despite bad weather, vigorous campaigning, PM Modi arrived to address the rally in Haldia, Bengal.

Haldia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Haldia on Thursday after a delay of two hours due to bad weather to address the first of his three election rallies in West Bengal. It has been raining in many parts of South Bengal including Kolkata since morning. Due to rain, the helipad at Haldia was filled with mud, delaying Modi’s arrival. The weather department has predicted improvement in the weather by evening.

According to senior BJP leaders in the state, this delay is also likely to impact the schedule of the Prime Minister’s other two rallies in Asansol and Suri. Haldia, the stronghold of Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari, is among the areas in East Medinipur district where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in its strongest position.

The importance of Haldia rally is also greater because the party wants to maintain its hold on this area and wants to show the influence of Subhendu Adhikari. Haldia has been one of the major centers of the party’s challenge against the Trinamool Congress. After the election rally here, the Prime Minister is going to address election meetings in Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman district and Suri in Birbhum.
