Experts on US-Iran ceasefire called: “Strategic victory for Iran”

Mohsen Farkhani, assistant professor at Isfahan University, described the ceasefire between the US and Iran as a strategic victory for Iran. Speaking to ANI, he said that when Trump claimed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, it means he has accepted Iran’s established control.

Farkhani said, “It is certainly a strategic victory, but not for the American side. It will count as a strategic victory for Iran. When Trump is claiming to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, it means only one thing, and that is that he has accepted Iran’s established control.”

He also said it was important that Iran’s terms were accepted. “Then, what stories is he making now? It makes no sense, and it is not important. It is only that Iran’s terms were accepted and implemented on the ground. So, what he is claiming as victory is not important,” he said.

Farkhani also pointed out that this ceasefire is not a permanent peace for Iran. “But we recognize that this is still not a permanent peace or ceasefire, we are now waiting to see whether the US continues to stand by the conditions that Iran has put forward, or whether they will betray this negotiating table again as they did the last two times,” he said.

The future of the Strait of Hormuz is still unclear. The ceasefire announcement stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully reopened. Some ships started passing through that strait on Wednesday morning, but their number was very limited. Before the war, an average of 130 ships passed through the strait every day. Later, when Israel launched attacks on Lebanon, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards issued a statement saying this was a violation of the ceasefire, and then the Iranian Revolutionary Guards blocked all routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
