Even after the victory, Pant is getting reprimanded, said Mohd. Kaif is not taking responsibility as captain, improve your understanding of the game.

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has criticized Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant, saying that the wicketkeeper-batsman needs to improve his understanding of the game and take more responsibility for consistent good results. LSG had registered a thrilling win by three wickets in the IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Pant was able to score only 10 runs in this match and his other top order batsmen also did not perform. LSG won this match with the help of Mukul Chaudhary’s unbeaten 54 runs. Pant’s performance has lacked consistency and Kaif criticized him in this context.

Kaif said on Star Sports, “‘The team needed him to stay at the crease till the end. He is an experienced player, who has been playing in IPL since 2016. When he came to bat the situation was not difficult. LSG had scored 41 runs in the first five overs. One batsman had to take the responsibility and bat till the end. Pant should have played this role.

He said, “Being a captain, if you do not take responsibility, you cannot help your team win the match. He performed well against Sunrisers Hyderabad but he needs to maintain consistency. He has to understand the match situation better and learn when to change his strategy.

Kaif said, “A captain’s job is to stay till the end while chasing the target and Pant will have to work on this.” Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that LSG is winning this season despite the disappointing performance of its key players, which makes it clear that it is not completely dependent on them. Gavaskar said, “They (LSG) were in a difficult situation, but with the help of their young players they managed to win. Mitchell Marsh could not score much runs, Aiden Markram scored only 22 runs. Pant and Puran also could not get into rhythm.

He said, “Despite the struggles of their main batsmen, LSG held their own and won. Last year they were completely dependent on these key players. This season they are winning even without depending on these players. Gavaskar said, “The matter of concern for LSG is the poor form of Nicholas Pooran. He did not look in rhythm against KKR. LSG will have to find a way to get Pooran’s confidence back.

He also praised young batsman Mukul Chaudhary. Gavaskar said, “Mukul Chaudhary bats without fear. He played an incredible innings. What I like most about IPL is that every day we get to see something new. The confidence he showed and the way he played his shots was really amazing to watch.”
