Justice Yashwant Verma resigns, steps taken amid burnt currency issue
Prayagraj. Justice Yashwant Verma posted in Allahabad High Court has resigned from his post. An internal investigation was going on against him in the case of burnt cash notes being found in his Delhi residence. Meanwhile, he has taken this decision.
According to the information, Justice Verma has sent his resignation letter to Draupadi Murmu. In his letter he has written that with extreme pain he is resigning from his post with immediate effect. He described his tenure as respectable.
The matter came to light after the fire incident
It is being told that on March 14, 2025, a fire broke out in his Delhi residence. While extinguishing the fire, firefighters found a large amount of burnt currency notes. After this incident, the matter came into discussion and its investigation was started. Justice Verma and his wife were not present at home at the time of the incident. He had gone to Madhya Pradesh, while his daughter and mother were present at home.
Administrative steps taken during investigation
After the matter came to light, Justice Verma was transferred back from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court. He was also kept away from judicial work. The then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna had constituted a three-member committee on March 22, 2025, which is investigating the matter. There was a stir in the Parliament regarding this matter and some MPs had given notice for the removal of Justice Verma. In such a situation, his resignation is considered important amid the possibility of impeachment.
