Major accident in Mathura, boat full of devotees drowned in Yamuna river, more than 6 people died and many missing, CM Yogi expressed grief
A major accident occurred when a boat capsized in Yamuna river on Friday afternoon in Vrindavan, Mathura. A boat filled with devotees collided with the pontoon bridge at KC Ghat and sank in the waters of Yamuna. More than 6 devotees have died in this accident, while many are still reported missing. Local police and administration teams immediately launched a massive rescue operation. Divers are busy searching for drowned people in the deep and fast flowing waters of Yamuna, which is posing challenges in the rescue work.
According to the information received immediately after the accident, more than 25 devotees were on board the boat. A joint team of police and divers took swift action and pulled 15 people out of the water safely. One of these devotees has been admitted to the Joint Hospital in a critical condition, where he is undergoing treatment. Unfortunately, the remaining ten people could not be saved and their deaths have been confirmed. The search for the boat sunk in the deep waters of the river is also going on, due to which there is a fear that the number of dead may increase. This entire area is now immersed in mourning.
Administration and police forces reached the spot as soon as information was received
As soon as the information was received, police forces, diving teams and local administrative officials reached the spot without any delay. They immediately started the rescue operation, which is still going on a war footing. The water of Yamuna river is very deep and the flow is also fast at this time, due to which divers are facing a lot of difficulties in working underwater. A large number of local people and other devotees have gathered at the accident site, causing some hindrance in the rescue operations. The administration has continuously appealed to the people to remain calm and cooperate with the rescue team, so that the work of searching for drowned people and rescuing the injured can be completed without any hindrance. The situation is being continuously monitored and senior officials are taking stock of the entire action on the spot.
Investigation has revealed that the devotees who were victims of the accident were part of a large group of 150 people who had come from Ludhiana and Mukteshwar in Punjab. This group had come to visit the temples and religious places of Mathura and Vrindavan. The boat in which these devotees were traveling also capsized in Yamuna after the accident and completely sank. The police team is now also searching for the sunken boat to ensure that no one else is trapped beneath it. According to initial information, this boat was being operated by a private sailor. Such private yachts often do not have strict regulations regarding safety standards and passenger capacity, which can lead to such accidents. The administration will now investigate this aspect also.
CM Yogi expressed grief
As soon as the news of boat accident and loss of life was received, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow. He wrote on social media platform The Chief Minister has directed the concerned officials to immediately reach the spot, conduct rescue and relief work and ensure proper treatment of all the injured. He has also prayed to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this immense sorrow. Also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Chief Minister has also asked the officials to ensure that the victims get all possible help and support.
Such accidents have been seen in the Yamuna river before, especially around pontoon bridges. Pontoon bridges, which are temporarily built over a river, can often change position due to changing water levels and flows. Not following safety rules while operating boats, overloading the boats and carelessness of sailors are the main reasons for such accidents. At busy religious places like KC Ghat, where there is huge crowd of devotees, there is a strong need for strict monitoring and security measures on the operation of private boats. This incident has once again highlighted the serious consequences of ignoring safety standards in river transport. Local people and experts say that the administration should make strict rules for operation of boats at such places and ensure their strict adherence.
Rescue team engaged in search of missing people
Rescue teams are still searching for missing people in the river and hopes of finding them are diminishing. The administration has appealed to the local people to immediately inform the police about any suspicious object or person. The work of providing information to the families of the deceased and providing them all possible assistance has also been started. This tragic incident has created an atmosphere of mourning in the entire area, and people are demanding the administration to take concrete steps to prevent such accidents in future. After the incident, consideration may be given to reviewing safety protocols and implementing stricter rules regarding operation of boats in the river, so that such tragedies are not repeated.
The loss of lives in the boat capsizing accident in Mathura district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching.
My condolences are with the bereaved families.
The concerned officials have been instructed to immediately reach the spot and conduct rescue and relief work and provide proper treatment to the injured.
Lord Shri Ram…
