India expressed deep concern over Israeli attacks in Lebanon, stressed on respecting the sovereignty of countries

New Delhi, 10 April. India has expressed deep concern over the loss of a large number of people in Israeli attacks on Lebanon despite the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran and has stressed on adherence to international laws and respect for the sovereignty of countries.

Expressing deep concern over the situation in Lebanon, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, during a press conference in the national capital on Friday, said that the incident of large number of civilians being killed in these attacks is very disturbing. “We are deeply concerned by reports of large numbers of civilian casualties in Lebanon,” he said.

Emphasizing India’s role as a troop contributing country to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Jaiswal said, ‘As a troop contributing country to UNIFIL, which is engaged in maintaining the peace and security of Lebanon, this turn of events is very disturbing.’

Safety of common citizens is top priority

Reiterating India’s old stand, he said, ‘India has always given the safety of civilians as its first priority. It is important to follow international law, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries. The government also assured that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in this area. He said, ‘Our Embassy in Lebanon is in constant touch with the Indian community for their safety and security.’

Randhir Jaiswal also said that India is increasing its engagement with the Gulf countries to meet its energy needs and is also closely monitoring the developments in West Asia. He said, ‘We are closely monitoring the developments happening in West Asia. We are in constant touch with the countries of the Gulf region. On the instructions of the Prime Minister, our ministers are visiting Gulf countries to strengthen our energy security.

He told that Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Mauritius and will visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on April 11 and 12, 2026. He will interact with UAE leaders to further strengthen India-UAE relations.
