Accident in Mathura: Boat capsized after hitting Pipa bridge in Yamuna river, 30 devotees from Ludhiana drowned, 10 died

Mathura, 10 April. A tragic accident took place in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on Friday, when a boat filled with 30 devotees coming from Ludhiana to Vrindavan capsized in the Yamuna river. Hearing the screams of the devotees, people nearby ran to save them. Police and divers also reached the spot. Relief work was started immediately. By the time the last news was received, bodies of 10 people had been recovered while 15 people were rescued safely. Five people are still reported missing, relief and rescue operations are underway to search for them.

According to the information received, a group of 30 devotees from Ludhiana had come to visit Vrindavan. All the devotees boarded the boat to visit the Yamuna river. The wind was blowing much stronger on Friday than usual. It is said that at around quarter to three o’clock the boat lost its balance due to a strong gust of wind and it overturned after hitting the Pipa bridge.

15 people were rescued safely, search for 5 others continues

Hearing the screams of the devotees, the police and divers, along with the nearby people, immediately started relief and rescue operations. By then everyone was in deep water. Although divers rescued 15 people safely, 10 died. Divers are also searching for the remaining five people.

Police-administration officials reached the spot after the accident

After the accident, police and administration officials reached the spot. DM, SSP and DIG took stock of the incident and the injured were taken to the hospital. DM Chandra Prakash Singh said that relief work is going on with the help of local divers. NDRF and Army have also been called. Hospitals have also been alerted. All the injured will be treated free of cost. SDM Ritu Sirohi said overload was the cause of the accident. He said that there were more people on the boat than required.

CM Yogi took cognizance of the accident

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the Mathura accident. Expressing grief over the accident, he has instructed all the officers to immediately reach the spot and carry out relief and rescue operations and immediately take the injured to the hospital for treatment.
