New Delhi: Justice Yashwant Verma, embroiled in the cash recovery controversy, has finally resigned from his post. He has sent his resignation from the post of judge of Allahabad High Court to President Draupadi Murmu.

Expressing his sentiments in his resignation letter, Justice Verma wrote,"Although I do not wish to burden your respected office with the reasons which have led me to submit this letter, it is with extreme pain that I tender my resignation from the post of Judge of the Allahabad High Court with immediate effect,"

According to sources, with his resignation the impeachment process going on against him will automatically end.

Sources associated with the Lok Sabha Secretariat say that after leaving the post, the constitutional process of removing him will not proceed further.

What is the whole matter?

This controversy came to light on March 14, 2025, when a large amount of cash was recovered from his official residence located in Lutyens area of ​​Delhi. At that time he was working as a judge in Delhi High Court.

It was told that the burnt cash was found in a storeroom near the servants’ quarters. At that time Justice Verma and his wife were present in Bhopal.

Supreme Court constituted investigation committee

A week after the incident, the Supreme Court formed an internal committee of three judges to investigate the matter.

On May 4, this committee had submitted its report to the then Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna.

During the investigation, Justice Verma was stripped of his judicial duties in the Delhi High Court.

After this he was transferred to his native Allahabad High Court, where he was instructed not to assign any kind of judicial work.
