But now, he has become a powerful investment mogul at 31 years old, besides being one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

During the early stages of his NBA career, Giannis was widely known for his extreme financial prudence. Haunted by the risk of losing his newly accumulated wealth, the young player opened accounts at 50 different banks, according to Bloomberg.
He deposited US$250,000 into each account to ensure his money remained completely protected under the maximum limit insured by the U.S. government.
His goal was simple: if one bank failed, his remaining money would still be safe and sound.
As time goes by, that survival instinct has evolved into one of the sharpest business minds in the sports industry.
The “Greek Freak”, a nickname for his size, speed, and strength, no longer keeps his wealth hidden away in savings accounts. He has channeled his capital into sports, entertainment, healthcare and consumer technology investments.
Giannis joined the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013 after being selected 13th overall in the NBA Draft. Since then, his outstanding performance on the court has secured prestigious titles and built a considerable financial empire.
As of late 2025, his net worth is estimated at $99.1 million, fueled by both massive NBA contracts and highly lucrative commercial deals, according to Forbes.
The contract extension he signed with the Bucks is worth up to $175.4 million and includes a rare no-trade clause reserved only for the league’s most influential players.
Starting Oct. 1 this year, Giannis will also have the option to sign a massive four-year contract extension with the club worth an estimated $270 million. He is currently one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.
Besides his NBA salary, other business ventures also generate massive revenue. Forbes estimates his off-court earnings alone are around $45 million annually.
A major turning point in his financial journey came when he founded BYL Ventures in 2024.
Through this venture capital fund, Giannis evolved from a traditional brand ambassador, like his signature shoe deal with Nike, into an investor.
BYL Ventures actively invests in pioneering startup projects such as Generation Lab, which focuses on longevity, and ScorePlay, an AI-based media management platform. These strategic moves solidify his position as a forward-thinking investor anticipating major trends in tech and biotechnology.

Giannis also quickly recognized that sports franchises are the highest sustainable asset in the modern market. His ownership portfolio has rapidly expanded on an international scale.
In baseball, he holds a stake in the Milwaukee Brewers and in football, he co-owns MLS side Nashville SC. He made another major strategic move in February 2026 by becoming a minority shareholder in the Chelsea women’s team, putting his trust into the booming global value of women’s football.
More recently, the Bucks power forward expanded beyond the sports world by investing heavily in IM8, a premium health and longevity brand co-founded by English football legend David Beckham, Athlon Sports reported.
In his new role, Giannis will be directly involved in the product formulation and strategy development process. This involvement marks a departure from typical endorsement contracts.
In less than a year on the market, IM8 has achieved an annualized revenue of $100 million, demonstrating the company’s ideal timing for market entry.
The 10-time NBA All-Star expressed immense excitement about the project, officially becoming a partner of IM8 and a shareholder in its NASDAQ-listed parent company, Prenetics.
He emphasized his core belief in investing in companies he truly believes in, rather than simply promoting products for a paycheck.
Notably, the NBA champion decided to completely forgo cash payments for this partnership, opting to receive 100% of his payment in company equity.
Despite starting his career as a rookie with a modest average salary of $2.1 million, Giannis’ talent and relentless drive have secured incredible financial milestones in a short time.
