Influencer Kanchan Kumari murder case: Main accused Amritpal Singh Mehron arrested at Delhi airport
Police has got a big success in the murder case of Punjab’s famous social media influencer Kanchan Kumari. The main accused in this case, Amritpal Singh Mehron, who was absconding for a long time, has been arrested. According to the information, Amritpal Singh Mehron had left the country and fled to the Middle East after the incident. He was later tracked down and brought to India, where he was arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of Friday. This action is considered important for Punjab Police. After the arrest of the accused, now he will be interrogated and the entire murder conspiracy and role of other associated people will be investigated.
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the accused was deported from abroad and brought to India. As soon as he reached Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the pre-deployed police team immediately took him into custody. According to the DGP, this entire action was taken with the joint cooperation of the Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police and central agencies. This operation is considered important in tracking down the accused who has been absconding for a long time and bringing him back from abroad.
According to the information, Amritpal Singh Mehron is a resident of Moga district of Punjab and used to present himself as a staunch Sikh leader. It is being told that after the murder of Kanchan Kumari, he had left the country and fled abroad in June 2025 itself. Since then he was continuously out of the reach of the police. The police had issued a lookout circular against him and several agencies were busy searching for him. After being absconding for a long time, he was finally tracked down and brought to India and arrested at the airport.
There was a sensation in Bathinda, Punjab after the body of Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi on social media, was recovered from a car parked in a parking lot. Police investigation has revealed that this is not a case of ordinary death but of a planned murder. After the incident, an atmosphere of panic and anger was seen in the area. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have intensified the investigation and the surrounding CCTV footage and other evidence are being scrutinized so that a link can be made to the incident.
Three accused have already been arrested in the case. The arrested accused include Jaspreet Singh of Moga and Nimratjit Singh of Tarn Taran. During police interrogation, both of them had allegedly confessed to the murder. It is alleged that he committed the crime by describing Kanchan Kumari’s social media content as “obscene” and hurting the sentiments of the community. According to the police, on June 11, 2025, Amritpal Singh Mehron and his associates had kidnapped Kanchan Kumari. After this he was murdered. After the murder, the body was left in a car parked in the parking lot of the Order Hospital, Bathinda, so as to confuse identification and investigation. This entire incident was carried out in a very well-planned and ruthless manner.
After the murder, Amritpal Singh Mehron had fled the country to the Middle East and was living in hiding there. Punjab Police traced his location with the help of central agencies, after which the process of extradition was started.
After this he was deported to India and immediately arrested at Delhi Airport. A video had also surfaced in this case, in which Amritpal Singh Mehron was allegedly seen justifying the murder. In the video, he had claimed that Kanchan Kumari was murdered by her colleagues because of objectionable social media content. Not only this, he also warned other social media creators not to create such content. The police are now thoroughly investigating the authenticity of this video, his network and his contacts during his absconding.
According to the police, Amritpal Singh Mehron had also threatened at least two other female social media influencers from Punjab. The investigating agencies are now looking seriously at this aspect. After his arrest, the police are now deeply investigating his alleged network, contacts and criminal intentions. It is also being ascertained whether other people were also involved in this entire matter. Punjab Police has clarified that their zero tolerance policy against organized crime and elements challenging law and order will continue. Police say that the case is being investigated from all angles and more revelations are possible soon.
