Court sends ‘Dhurandhar 2’ song row to mediation
The Delhi High Court has sent a copyright dispute linked to Dhurandhar 2 to mediation, asking both sides to try and sort things out quietly.
The case circles around the song Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) and whether it borrows too heavily from an older track.
Trimurti Films says the song lifts music from Tirchi Topiwalaa popular number from the 1989 film Tridevstarring Sunny Deol. According to them, this has been done without proper permission.
On the other side is B62 Studios, along with Super Cassettes, which holds the audio rights for the film’s songs.
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the matter looks “primarily financial” and suggested mediation could help settle royalty and compensation questions.
A senior mediator is now expected to step in.
In court, lawyer Swathi Sukumar argued the song’s use across theatres, digital platforms and promotions was “unauthorised”.
But Akhil Sibal, appearing for Super Cassettes, pushed back, saying Trimurti had come “with unclean hands” and had not flagged similar past uses.
Meanwhile, the film itself is already out in cinemas, with its OTT release not expected before mid-May.
