Justice Yashwant Verma was sworn in on April 5, 2025, and an internal investigation is currently underway in connection with the allegations against him. According to reports, the process of removing Justice Verma from the post is also likely to be initiated by the Parliament. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, parliamentary expulsion proceedings could have been initiated in this case. His resignation now raises questions about how this process will proceed and what it means for the accountability system within the judiciary.

With this move, it is believed that Justice Verma will lose the constitutional immunity enjoyed by sitting judges, which will make it possible for a criminal case to be registered against him and subsequent arrest. However, these steps will take effect only if the President of India Draupadi Murmu accepts his resignation.
