SpiceJet Layoffs: SpiceJet, one of the largest airlines in the country, is currently going through a tough time. As a result, the company has taken a terrible decision. To deal with this financial crisis, the company has decided to cut 20 percent of its workforce. According to the information received, it has come to light that the company will soon send many of its employees on temporary leave without pay.

The company currently employs 6,800 people, many of whom will be laid off. The company now has only 13 aircraft remaining, including 10 Boeings and 3 Q400s. Fourteen more aircraft are on lease. Amid its financial woes, the company has not paid the salaries of other senior employees for two to three months. TDS and PF amount outstanding above Rs.100 crores. So the important issue is what will be the effect of such a situation.
SpiceJet heavily in debt
This problem is arising due to being in debt. Recently, an English court ordered an airline to pay approximately Rs 68 crore in a dispute related to an aircraft lease. This new decision has further aggravated the financial woes of the already loss-making company. The airline has also not collected TDS and GST since April 2025. As a result, there has been tension between the airline staff and the pilots.
Pilot and crew in tension
The layoffs at SpiceJet have put a lot of stress on many employees and their families. These staffing cuts could threaten the jobs of cabin crew, ground staff and some officers. The company has not yet clarified how many jobs will be cut, but sources inside and outside the company indicate that the layoffs are taking place in several phases. Pilots will be given 21 days of work and will have to take 9 days off.
