Iran-US peace meeting started 5 hours late, Tehran is adamant about Hormuz-Lebanon, will Rafa Sutra be met at all?

Finally, the Iran-US peace meeting started five hours late in Islamabad. According to sources, the pre-conditions that Iran had placed before the talks are still complicated. U.S. President Donald Trump voiced uncertainty about the whole issue. In this situation, the question arises, will Rafa Sutra meet at all?

Trump said on Saturday, “It is not yet clear where the talks will go. Only time will pass and the real attitude of Iran will be known. The Strait of Hormuz will open soon.” Apart from this, he also indicated the alternative way of energy supply. Calling Iran a ‘failed state’, Trump said, “If these diplomatic negotiations fail, America is ready to strike again. We will respond more strongly to Iran if necessary.”

According to sources, even though both parties are present in Islamabad, Iran-America has not yet sat at the table for direct negotiations. The main reason for this is that Washington has not yet agreed to the terms offered by Iran. However, it is known that US Vice President JD Vance has already held a bilateral meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. On the other hand, Pakistani officials also held separate meetings with the delegations of America and Iran. A tripartite meeting of Pakistan-Iran-America is to be held after that. But sources say that it is being blocked due to complications over the conditions offered by Tehran.

The main conditions offered by Tehran include an end to Israeli aggression in Lebanon and demand a cease-fire, no new US troop deployments or military buildup in West Asia. Iran has also demanded a ‘transit fee’ or tax on ships sailing through Hormuz. According to sources, the US delegation has rejected those conditions at the behest of Trump. In this situation, it is to be seen which direction the peace meeting will take.
