Will new faces get a place in the cabinet as soon as Nitish leaves the post? speculations intensify

Sanjay Singh, Patna. The politics of Bihar is once again standing on the cusp of major change. Even before the possible resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the stir in the corridors of power has intensified. The most talked about thing is that this time Janata Dal United (JDU) is preparing to give place to new and young faces in its cabinet. This change is considered important not only in face but also in terms of political balance and administrative efficiency.

In fact, all the eight ministers who took oath from JDU quota in the government formed after the 2025 assembly elections had been ministers earlier also. These include Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Ashok Chaudhary, Lacey Singh, Madan Sahni, Sunil Kumar and Jama Khan. All these leaders have a strong hold on both power and organization for a long time and are considered trustworthy of the Chief Minister. However, now the feeling is getting stronger within the party that by continuously giving chances to the same faces, there is a lack of new energy in the organization. This is the reason why this time a strategy is being made to give opportunities to new MLAs in cabinet expansion or reshuffle.

Increasing pressure on old ministers

In the current situation, many senior ministers of JDU have the responsibility of two to three departments simultaneously. For example, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary is handling important departments like water resources, building construction, parliamentary affairs and information and public relations.

Whereas Bijendra Prasad Yadav has huge portfolios like Energy, Finance, Commercial Tax and Planning and Development. Similarly, Shravan Kumar is looking after the Rural Development and Transport Department, while Sunil Kumar is looking after the Education and Science Technology Department. Running such large departments simultaneously is proving challenging from the administrative point of view. In such a situation, division of departments and handing over responsibilities to new ministers is now considered almost certain.

Bet on new faces

Many new and young faces from JDU have reached the assembly after winning the 2025 assembly elections. The party is now preparing to bet on these faces. Among these, names like Dr. Kumar Pushpanjay, Indradev Singh, Samridh Verma, Sonam Rani Sardar, Vishal Kumar, Shweta Gupta, Nagendra Raut, Atirek Kumar, Komal Singh, Aditya Kumar, Rituraj Kumar, Manjarik Mrinal, Abhishek Anand, Nachiketa, Pappu Kumar Verma and Ruhail Ranjan are prominent. The party’s objective behind including these new MLAs in the cabinet is to achieve social and regional balance. Besides, the party also wants to make its image modern and dynamic by bringing forward youth leadership.

If political sources are to be believed, after the resignation of the Chief Minister, a fresh government may be formed or the cabinet may be reconstituted. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how JDU strikes a balance between its old experienced leaders and new faces. At present it is certain that a new script is being written in the politics of Bihar, where a combination of experience and youthful energy can be seen.
