New Delhi : Peace talks between Iran and the US, brokered by Pakistan, began in Islamabad on Saturday. Which lasted about two and a half hours. After that the first round of talks ended. After which there is a short break. It is coming to light that the second round of talks will start soon. If sources are to be believed, the results of the first round of talks have been positive. Sources also said that during the first round of talks, Pakistani officials were exchanging messages between the two countries, meaning that the entire conversation took place through Pakistani intermediaries. It is being told that if further talks go well then both the countries will be able to hold direct talks.

An Iranian source had claimed that the US has agreed to release Iran’s frozen assets, which are seized in Qatar and other foreign banks, but these claims have not been confirmed by the US.

Actually, the objective of these talks is to reach a permanent peace agreement to end the ongoing war in West Asia. The war has paralyzed energy supplies globally and caused widespread economic disruption. Ahead of the talks, the US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance and the Iranian delegation led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf held separate meetings with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Talks between Iran and the US, brokered by Pakistan, began in Islamabad, Iranian media reported without sharing any details. Vance arrived in Islamabad along with special envoy Steve Witkoff and several senior US officials, including US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. He arrived here hours after the Ghalibaf-led Iranian delegation reached the Pakistani capital.

Apart from Ghalibaf, the Iranian delegation includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Secretary of the Supreme National Defense Council Ali Akbar Ahmadine and Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati. The peace talks, brokered by Pakistan, are taking place four days after Iran and the US announced a two-week ceasefire. However, Israel’s large-scale attacks on Lebanon have killed more than 300 people. Tehran claimed the attack violated the terms of the ceasefire agreement, while the US and Israel said Lebanon was not part of the agreement. Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Sharif on Saturday expressed hope that the talks between America and Iran to be held here will establish lasting peace in West Asia.

The Foreign Office said in a statement that Sharif said this during a meeting with the US delegation led by Vice President Vance. It said that while appreciating the commitment of both the delegations to engage constructively, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that these talks would prove to be a step towards lasting peace in the region. When Vance reached Noor Khan Airbase, he was received by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Asim Munir. According to Pakistan Foreign Office, Dar, while welcoming the US Vice President, appreciated America’s commitment to achieving lasting peace and stability at the regional and global level.
