Tragic accident: 10 people died on the spot in massive collision between bus and pickup
Katihar. A heart-wrenching road accident took place late Saturday evening on National Highway No. 31 under Kodha police station of Katihar district in Bihar. In which 10 people died.
A high speed bus going from Harda to Purnia collided head-on with a pickup van coming from the front near Datpur Mushari Chowk near Basgada Chowk. The accident was so terrible that two motorcycles passing by also got hit by it.
In this accident, 10 people died on the spot, while 32 people were seriously injured. The accident was so horrific that both the vehicles were blown to pieces.
As soon as information about the incident was received, Kodha police station reached the spot. The police have taken all the bodies in their custody and sent them to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
The dead are being identified. After the accident the bus driver fled from the spot. Police have seized the bus and started searching for the driver. Confirming the death toll in the accident, Superintendent of Police Shikhar Chaudhary said that the death toll may increase further.
He said that the injured have been referred to the Higher Center in Purnia and other big hospitals for better treatment. At present, the district administration is busy in relief work and identifying the dead.
Chief Minister expressed grief over death in road accident
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the death of people in the horrific road accident in Katihar. The Chief Minister said that this incident is very sad and I am heartbroken by it.
The Chief Minister has directed to give ex-gratia grant of Rs 02-02 lakh to the dependents of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 50-50 thousand to the injured.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, senior officials have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue work. The Chief Minister has wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident and has directed for proper treatment.
