The journey from Saawariya to becoming Ram, how Ranbir Kapoor broke the chocolate boy image
News India Live, Digital Desk: Bollywood’s ‘Saawariya’ i.e. Ranbir Kapoor is today at that stage of his career where he is reinventing himself with every film. Raj Kapoor’s grandson and Rishi Kapoor’s darling Ranbir, who once ruled millions of hearts with his chocolatey image, is now all set to play the role of Lord Shri Ram in Indian cinema’s most ambitious project ‘Ramayana’. This journey from Chocolate Boy to the dreaded incarnation of ‘Animal’ and now becoming Maryada Purushottam is being considered as the biggest test of Ranbir’s acting journey.
The leap from towel-wearing ‘Saawariya’ to ‘Rockstar’
Ranbir Kapoor made his debut in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Saawariya’. Even though the film did not do well at the box office, Ranbir’s innocence and his ‘towel dance’ made him a national crush overnight. After this, films like ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ cemented her romantic image. However, with films like ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Barfi’, Ranbir proved that he is not just a dancing and singing hero but a seasoned artiste.
The huge success of ‘Animal’ and Ranbir’s transformation
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film ‘Animal’ proved to be the turning point in Ranbir’s career. The kind of violence and gray shade character Ranbir played in this film washed away all his previous images. ‘Animal’ did a business of more than Rs 900 crore at the box office and brought Ranbir into the ranks of Bollywood’s top ‘alpha male’ stars. After the success of this film, director Nitish Tiwari chose him as ‘Lord Ram’ for his epic film ‘Ramayana’.
Ranbir’s hard penance to become ‘Ram’
Playing the character of Lord Ram is not an easy task for Ranbir. According to reports, Ranbir has made drastic changes in his lifestyle for this role. Not only has he completely given up meat and alcohol, but he is also working hard on his voice and body language. Ranbir is being trained for hours in correct Hindi pronunciation and ‘diction’. Pictures of his gym training are going viral on social media, where he is sweating it out to get the physique of a calm and composed ‘Ram’.
Will Ranbir Kapoor be able to become ‘Perfect Ram’?
Sai Pallavi will be seen in the role of ‘Mata Sita’ and Yash in the role of ‘Ravana’ along with Ranbir in Ramayana. Along with the huge enthusiasm among the audience about the film, there are also keen eyes on it. The challenge for Ranbir is how to portray the gentleness of ‘Ram’ on screen so soon after the aggressive image of ‘Animal’. Will this ‘Agnipariksha’ of Ranbir Kapoor make him the biggest superstar of Indian cinema? Its decision will be taken with the release of the film, but Ranbir’s dedication is praiseworthy.
