Delhi EV Policy: Delhi Government has released the draft of Electric Vehicle Policy 2026-2030, which has been named EV Policy 2.0. The main objective of this new policy is to reduce the increasing pollution in the capital and promote a clean transport system. The EV cell of the Transport Department has made this draft public on April 11 and has sought suggestions from the common people within 30 days.

Phased ban on petrol vehicles

  • Under the new policy, a plan has been made to gradually discontinue petrol vehicles. Registration of new petrol two-wheelers will be stopped in Delhi from April 1, 2028. At the same time, it will be mandatory to buy an electric three-wheeler from January 1, 2027.
  • From January 1, there will be a ban on petrol-diesel two-wheelers and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes for aggregators. However, two-wheelers with BS-VI standards will be able to run by the end of this year.

Subsidy on electric two-wheeler
To promote electric two-wheelers, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per kWh depending on the battery capacity, up to a maximum of Rs 30,000. This subsidy will reduce to Rs 3,300 per kWh in the next three years and a maximum of Rs 10,000.

Benefits on three-wheeler and commercial EV
On purchasing an electric three-wheeler, you will get a discount of Rs 50,000 in the first year, which will later reduce to Rs 40,000 and then Rs 30,000. Initial discount on N1 category vehicles will be up to Rs 1 lakh.

Benefits for electric car buyers
Scrappage incentive will be given on purchase of electric car up to Rs 30 lakh. This benefit will be for the first 1 lakh customers, provided they scrap their old BS-VI or older vehicle.

Tax and fee exemption
Road tax and registration fees on electric vehicles will be completely waived till 31 March 2030. At the same time, strong hybrid cars will get 50% tax exemption. Along with this, on scrapping the old vehicle, you will also get an additional bonus of Rs 10,000 on two-wheelers, Rs 25,000 on three-wheelers and Rs 50,000 on N1 vehicles. This policy is being considered a big initiative to rapidly move Delhi towards electric mobility.
