Weather Alert: Heavy thunderstorm, rain and hailstorm expected in 13 states…
The weather patterns are going to deteriorate once again in many parts of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and strong winds in 13 states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh for April 12.
Weather Update: Once again a big change is being seen in the weather of the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding rain, thunderstorm and strong winds in 13 states within the next 16 hours. Winds blowing at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are expected in many states, while hailstorm and lightning are expected in some areas.
While on one hand this seasonal change has brought relief rain in the hilly and north-eastern states, on the other hand the effect of heat and heat wave is also likely to intensify in the plains.
Rain and storm alert in these 13 states
According to the Meteorological Department, the states where warnings of moderate to heavy rain and strong winds have been issued on April 12 include:
- Himachal Pradesh
- Uttarakhand
- Jammu and Kashmir
- west bengal
- Sikkim
- Odisha
- Karnataka
- Andhra Pradesh
- Kerala
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Nagaland
- Manipur
- Mizoram
Strong winds can blow at a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour in these areas. There is also a possibility of lightning and thunder in eastern and north-eastern India.
Impact of weather in hilly states
An alert of moderate to heavy rain has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Winds up to 60 km per hour can blow in many areas. There is a possibility of bad weather in Himachal’s districts like Kinnaur, Shimla, Solan, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra. A drop in temperature may be recorded at tourist places like Manali.
There is a warning of light rain in high altitude areas of Uttarakhand like Nainital, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. It is possible for the temperature to drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, which will provide some relief from the heat.
Danger of lightning in North-East and Eastern India
There is an alert of rain along with thunderstorm in West Bengal, Sikkim and many northeastern states. Warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued in areas like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong. Moderate to heavy rain has been predicted in many parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Wind speed may increase in coastal areas, which may affect marine activities.
Heat and heat wave wreak havoc in the plains
While on one hand it is raining in many states, on the other hand the temperature is increasing rapidly in many parts of North and Central India.
- Heat wave warning in UP, Bihar and Rajasthan
- Hot winds likely to blow in many districts of Uttar Pradesh
- No warning of rain in Bihar, but temperature will rise
- The effect of extreme heat will continue in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Heat like conditions may occur in these states during the day, due to which people have been advised to remain alert. There is no rain warning in the National Capital Region on April 12. However, there may be strong winds and light clouds. The temperature can reach up to 33 degrees Celsius. There is relief from rain in Haryana at present, but the temperature may rise by 4 to 5 degrees.
