New initiative of Bihar government: Good news for farmers of 25 districts
Patna. In Bihar, the state government has taken a big step to increase the income of farmers and strengthen the rural economy. In order to revive the sugarcane based industry, a plan has been made to restart the closed sugar mills as well as establish new sugar mills in 25 districts. Along with this, focus is also being given to those areas where this industry had not reached till now.
Emphasis on jaggery industry along with sugar mills
The government does not want to be limited to sugar production only, but is also working towards promoting the jaggery industry. Jaggery production is being encouraged in areas where there are no sugar mills. For this, the process of providing assistance and training to farmers under a special scheme has started.
Start of expansion of sugarcane farming
Sugarcane Crop Area Expansion Program has been implemented in the state, the objective of which is to promote sugarcane cultivation in non-traditional areas also. Till now, sugarcane cultivation has started on hundreds of acres of land. Farmers in districts like Bhagalpur, Bhojpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Jamui, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Purnia, Saharsa and Sitamarhi are joining this initiative.
Free seed facility to farmers
The biggest feature of this scheme is that sugarcane seeds are being given free of cost to the farmers. Small and medium farmers, who cultivate 0.25 acres to 5 acres, can avail the benefits of this scheme. The officials of the department are going from village to village to connect the farmers with this scheme.
employment with increased income
Sugarcane farming is considered a profitable crop, because once sown, it can be harvested many times. Apart from this, additional income can also be earned by preparing jaggery, juice and other products from sugarcane. This will not only increase the income of farmers, but will also create new employment opportunities in rural areas.
