Seven arrested for allegedly offering fake degrees from a fake university

New Delhi. Police have busted a fake degree and certificate gang in south-east Delhi and arrested seven people. In this regard, an official said on Friday that information was received that a gang was running an organized network to issue fake educational documents, after which this action was taken.

According to the police, the accused were carrying out their illegal work from a premises located in Govindpuri in south-east Delhi, where they had made complete arrangements to prepare fake degrees, marksheets and other certificates.

Seven people were arrested during the raid, while 28 others were booked as a precautionary measure, a senior police officer said. The accused have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar Maurya (25), Janak Neupane (25), Kishan Kumar (26), Vicky Kumar Jha (26), Ashish Thapliyal (35), Akash Kumar (21) and Sanjay Arya (29), who are residents of different parts of Delhi.

Police said in a statement that the gang used to trap innocent people across the country in the name of a fake institute called ‘Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Management Science and Technology’.

It said that the accused had also recruited telecallers through online job platforms to increase their work. Police also pointed out that the gang had a structured hierarchy with specific roles assigned to each member.

During the raid, the team recovered Rs 2.79 lakh in cash, 31 mobile phones, two laptops, two printers and a Wi-Fi router, the officer said. Several fake degrees, blank certificates and registers containing details of victims were also seized. He said that a case has been registered and investigation is going on to identify other people associated with this gang.
