Raid in Aligarh Muslim University; 2 magazines, live cartridges, 8 mobiles, fake notes recovered from student’s room

During a joint raid in a hostel room of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), police and university security team have recovered live cartridges, fake currency notes and several suspicious items. This action was taken on the basis of intelligence received after the recent firing incident in Civil Lines area.

According to the information, on Wednesday (April 8) evening, AMU Security Department and local police jointly conducted a search operation in room Z-34/37 of Sir Ziauddin Hall. During this, 32 bore pistol bullets, four cartridges of 12 bore weapon, fake currency notes, eight mobile phones and an empty magazine cover and fake ID cards were allegedly recovered from the room.

Confirming the incident, AMU Proctor Naved Khan said that preliminary investigation has revealed that this room was in illegal occupation of a student named ‘Shahbaz’ alias Chhotu, who is a second year student of MCA. He said that the allegation is that Shahbaz himself was staying there for several months after ousting the legitimately allotted students from the room.

According to the proctor, documents recovered from the room indicated that Shahbaz was previously enrolled in a course at AMU, but was a non-residential student and was not allowed to stay in the hostel. In this case, a legitimate student is being detained and interrogated to find out how Shahbaz took possession of the room.

Police sources said that this raid is related to the firing incident that took place in Civil Lines area on Monday (April 6). Three people were detained in this case on Tuesday, during whose interrogation Shahbaz’s name came up. After this the investigation team raided the hostel. Shahbaz is said to be absconding at present.

At present, the police and AMU administration are engaged in a detailed investigation of the entire matter. Forensic examination of the recovered items will be conducted and efforts are being made to find out the purpose for which the fake currency and weapons were being used.
