US delegation leaves Islamabad after JD Vance announces no agreement reached with Iran
US delegation has departed IslamabadPakistan, after the high-stakes US-Iran trilateral peace talks concluded without any agreement.
In a direct statement from Islamabad, Vance confirmed the collapse of negotiations, saying the Iranian side chose not to accept US terms despite clear red lines being communicated.
JD Vance’s Statement on the Failed Talks
“The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement. And I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America,” Vance said.
He added: “So we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement. We’ve made very clear what our red lines are, what things we’re willing to accommodate them on, and what things we’re not willing to accommodate them on… and they have chosen not to accept our terms.”
The US team, led by Vance along with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushnerheld intense, marathon sessions — reportedly lasting over 21 hours — with Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif actively mediated the trilateral format.
What Happens Next?
With no agreement in place:
- The risk of renewed conflict in the Middle East has increased.
- Global energy markets could face volatility due to potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
- The US has signaled it remains open to future talks only if Iran returns with a more realistic approach and accepts the clearly stated red lines.
This marks a significant development in the first high-level face-to-face US-Iran engagement in decades. Further statements from the White House, Tehran, and Islamabad are expected in the coming hours.
