Kolkata: This time the West Bengal Assembly elections are going to be decided not by the usual mathematics of 294 seats, but by about 65-70 seats. These are those seats where in the last elections, victory or defeat has been decided by a few thousand or a few hundred votes. Now due to SIR on these seats, there has been a big change in the voter list, which has changed the entire electoral equation.

These 65-70 important seats include Nandigram, Bhawanipur, Matua belt of North 24 Parganas, minority dominated areas of Murshidabad and Malda. Till April 7, names of more than 90.83 lakh voters have been removed from the voter list across Bengal. That means 11.85% names of total voters have been deleted.

Of these, the biggest impact has been on about 70 seats in 11 districts. There are 13 seats in North 24 Parganas, 10 in Murshidabad, 9 in Bankura-Purulia, 8 in Howrah-Hooghly and 8 each in Medinipur and Bardhaman where the competition was already very tough.

Even in seats like Bogaon South and Kalyani, the names removed are many times more than the victory margin.

The impact of SIR is not limited to any one party. There are 44 such seats where the number of names removed is more than the victory margin of 2021. Of these, 24 seats are with TMC and 20 seats are with BJP. Mamta Banerjee is claiming that this time she will register a bigger victory than in 2021. Whereas Amit Shah is saying that BJP will reach 170 seats. Both the parties are now focusing on every booth and every removed voter.

TMC leaders are alleging that BJP is stealing votes through the Election Commission. Whereas BJP says that fake and illegal voters have been removed from SIR, due to which real results will be revealed. Political experts believe that if even just 1% of the votes change here and there, the results of at least 15 seats can be changed. More than 20 seats can be affected by a 2% change.
