Jairam Ramesh’s allegation- “PM is misleading the country”
Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Modi and his government are misleading the public on the issue of caste census. He alleged that first the government decided not to do it and now it is changing its stand according to the political circumstances. He said this shows a “lack of policy clarity”. In his post, the Congress leader attacked the government by mentioning the events from the year 2021 to 2026. He told that in July 2021, the government had clarified in the Lok Sabha that castes other than SC/ST will not be counted. After this, the same stand was reiterated in the affidavit given in the Supreme Court in September 2021. Jairam Ramesh also reminded that during an interview in April 2024, PM Modi had accused the Congress of having an “urban Naxalite mentality” over the demand for caste census. But in April 2025, the government suddenly announced that caste census will also be included in the upcoming census.
Questions regarding amendment in law also
Jairam Ramesh alleged that the government now wants to amend Article 334-A related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act 2023. He says that the government is arguing that it will take time to get the results of the caste census, whereas states like Bihar and Telangana had completed their caste surveys in a short time. He said that the “hidden agenda” behind the attempt to change the law passed unanimously by Parliament is to postpone the caste census. The issue of caste census has once again come to the center of national politics. While Congress is linking it to social justice, it is accusing BJP of not taking a clear stand on this issue. In the coming time, this issue can become a big political controversy from Parliament to the electoral arena.
