Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Paris, discussed India-France strategic partnership

The arrival of Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Paris on Sunday has given a new impetus to India-France relations. This Foreign Office dialogue, taking place after the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India in February 2026, underlines the continuity of high-level dialogue between the two countries.

Sharing this information on social media, the Indian Embassy said that the Egyptian will co-chair the talks along with Martin Briens, Secretary General of the French Foreign Ministry. The scope of discussions will span defense cooperation, civil nuclear energy, space, cyber security, digital technology, artificial intelligence, innovation and cultural exchange. Global and regional issues will also be discussed.

The Egyptian will meet many senior French officials during his stay. He will then leave for Germany, where there will be parallel talks with Geza Andreas von Ger, State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit comes after the visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Macron to India in early 2026. This will provide an opportunity for a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and expansion of cooperation in key areas.

During the February visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Macron gave the relationship the status of special global strategic partnership. A comprehensive roadmap across defence, technology and health was presented, which will strengthen the ‘Horizon 2047’ vision. The first private helicopter assembly line was inaugurated in Vemagal, Karnataka, where H125 helicopters will be manufactured. The agreement between Bharat Electronics and Safran for production of ‘Hammer’ missile will strengthen self-reliant India. ‘India-France Innovation Year 2026’ was launched, which Modi described as the basis of global stability.
