Born on 8 September 1933 in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle was the daughter of the great classical singer Deenanath Mangeshkar. After her father’s death at the age of just 9, she took over the responsibility of the family along with her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar and started singing in films. After recording her first song from the Marathi film Majha Bal in 1943, she made her Bollywood debut in 1948 with the song “Sawan Aaya” from the Hindi film Chunariya.
