PRTC by giving opportunities only to Punjabis under Kilometer Scheme. 250 buses included in the fleet: Harpal Singh Cheema

Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to provide robust and accessible public transport, State Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today announced a major expansion of the state’s transport network. He told that the government is going to include a large fleet of 659 buses in Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) and 606 buses in PUNBUS.

250 buses included in the fleet

Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that recently 250 buses have been included in the fleet under the Kilometer Scheme. He said, “This initiative was exclusively dedicated to the residents of Punjab with the aim of generating maximum employment opportunities within the state. Under this scheme, bus owners (private individuals) were allowed to get their vehicles customized as per their choice, provided they strictly follow the government standards and safety rules.”

PRTC To achieve the target of 659 buses, the department is not limited to the kilometer scheme only. The Minister said that as part of the comprehensive modernization of the regional transport infrastructure, PRTC. Presently active tender is in process for procurement of 100 mini buses and 309 other standard buses.

Details of 606 buses scheduled for PUNBUS

Giving details of 606 buses earmarked for PUNBUS, the Minister said that a well-planned procurement plan has been prepared. He said, “387 buses will be directly inducted into the general fleet of PUNBUS to immediately meet the growing demand on various routes. The remaining buses will be added under the kilometer scheme, which will further improve operational efficiency and route coverage.”

He further said, “19 PUNBUS Volvo buses and 100 HVAC buses will be inducted in this phase, which will provide a more comfortable travel experience to the passengers. Apart from this, the total number of new PUNBUS buses will be 606 with the induction of 100 general buses under the Kilometer Scheme.”

Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that PRTC. This historic expansion in the fleet of both Pune and Pune Buses will significantly strengthen connectivity across Punjab. He said that the induction of new buses will provide more comfortable, reliable and accessible travel facilities to the passengers, will also increase entrepreneurship opportunities and increase the revenue of the state.
