IPL 2026: Rutherford’s explosive 71* in vain, RCB beats MI by 18 runs

Mumbai In a thrilling match of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians by 18 runs. RCB batted first and scored 240 runs for four wickets in 20 overs, chasing which MI were reduced to 222/5. Sherfane Rutherford’s stormy innings of unbeaten 71 runs on 31 balls could not avert the team’s defeat.

The start of RCB’s innings was explosive. Phil Salt hit 78 runs in 36 balls, which included six fours and six sixes. Virat Kohli completed his half-century in 38 balls. The partnership of 120 runs for the first wicket provided a strong base. Captain Rajat Patidar scored 53 runs in 20 balls. Tim David contributed 34 unbeaten runs.

MI got off to a good start while chasing the target. Ryan Rickelton scored 37 runs and Rohit Sharma scored 19 runs, but Rohit retired hurt due to injury. Suryakumar Yadav was out after scoring 33 runs, Hardik Pandya was out after scoring 40 runs. Rutherford created panic with nine sixes. Suyyash Sharma took two wickets for RCB.

This is RCB’s third win, while MI got its third defeat. This match shows the thrill of T20 cricket.
