Iran-US Peace Talks Fail: Solution not found even after 21 hours of discussion, these are the big reasons
New Delhi: The ongoing high-level peace talks between Iran and America have ended without any concrete results. Even after this long conversation that lasted for about 21 hours in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, no consensus could be reached between the two countries, which has dealt a blow to the hopes of reducing regional tension.
On behalf of America, Vice President J. Confirming the end of the talks, D. Vance said that America has put forward its final proposal and now the decision has to be taken by Iran. This conversation took place at a time when America, along with Israel, had recently announced to stop attacks on Iran for two weeks, so that the path of talks could be opened.
Nuclear weapons became the biggest controversy
While talking to the media in a luxury hotel in Islamabad, Vance made it clear that the biggest obstacle to the talks was the issue of nuclear weapons. America wants Iran to give concrete guarantees not only now but also not to develop nuclear weapons in the future.
Vance said,"The simple thing is that we need a positive assurance that they will not make nuclear weapons nor try to acquire the equipment with which bombs can be made rapidly in the future. The question is, do we see a strong will among the Iranians not to develop nuclear weapons? We have not seen anything like this yet, but we hope to see it in the future."
America’s strict demands
According to pro-government influencer Ali Gholahki, America has demanded Iran to send 400 kg of uranium out of the country. This is said to be the same stock which could not be seized in the previous military operation.
Apart from this, America has also set conditions regarding zero enrichment and management of the Strait of Hormuz. Ali Gholhaki wrote on X,"Today a test took place on the strait, which Iran clearly rejected. No commitment was received from the US regarding Lebanon, which makes it clear that Washington had not actually come for talks."
Iran’s answer: ‘Excessive demands’
Reacting to the failure of the talks, Tehran said that America had set excessively stringent conditions, due to which agreement was not possible.
Iran continues to claim that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but America and Israel do not believe this. Due to this distrust, military confrontation has been seen between the two sides in the past also.
Trump’s instructions and Vance’s statement
Vance said that according to the instructions of President Donald Trump, the US delegation negotiated with complete honesty and flexibility.
He said,"The President told us that we should make efforts with full sincerity. We did the same, but unfortunately we could not make much progress."
Silence on important issues like Hormuz
Although many important issues were discussed during the talks, Vance did not mention any differences regarding the Strait of Hormuz in his statement.
This strait is very important for global oil supply, through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil passes. In such a situation, any kind of tension in this region can have a big impact on the global economy.
