Patna High Court handed over the investigation of Rinku Kumari death case to IPS Vikas Vaibhav.

Begusarai. A sensational case which was initially closed as a suicide has now been reopened after five years. The death of Rinku Kumari, warden of Kasturba Gandhi Girls School in Begusarai, has now become a mystery. The question remains, was it suicide or a planned murder?

Patna High Court has raised serious questions on the police investigation in this entire matter and has ordered a new investigation and handed over the responsibility to Vikas Vaibhav. In such a situation, it is believed that now the SIT will re-examine the old evidence and the role of the officers involved in the earlier investigation can also be seen. On the morning of 4 April 2021, Rinku Kumari left her home for school. Everything was normal. But around 2 pm news came that his body was found in the school premises. There was a noose around his neck. The special thing is that he was shown tied to the ceiling fan, but the body was lying on the ground. Later the sitting position was also revealed in the pictures. The dust, mess and condition of the room were telling a different story.

The most shocking thing was that the school’s CCTV was switched off from 7.18 am to 1.24 pm. That means there is no record of the entire time of the incident. In such a situation, the question arose whether this was a mere coincidence or part of some conspiracy? What happened next? This question has been standing since the beginning, but till now the answer has not been found.

Let us tell you that as the investigation of this case progressed, a money angle came to light. According to the family, Rinku Kumari had given an advance of Rs 15 lakh to her neighbors in exchange for the land. But neither the land was received nor the money was returned. It was decided to resolve this dispute in the Panchayat on April 4, 2021. The family alleges that this money dispute took their lives. His daughter Tejaswini Kumari clearly said that this was not suicide but murder.

The case was registered the next day of the incident. But the police considered it a suicide. The names of the people against whom the family was raising suspicion were not included in the FIR? Why was CCTV switched off? Why was the condition of the dead body different? Why were there signs of struggle? Obviously these questions were not investigated in depth and answers were not found, but in October 2021 the police filed a closure report. However, the matter did not end here. The lower court accepted this report on 9 April 2025. That means the case remained almost closed for five years.

But the family did not give up. Daughter Tejaswini Kumari approached the High Court. When the hearing took place in Patna High Court, many shocking things came to light. The bench of Justice Sandeep Kumar delivered its verdict on 8 April 2026. In the order of about 40 pages, the court clearly said that there were serious flaws in the initial investigation. The suicide theory was dismissed and the closure report was quashed. The court also said that fair investigation is a fundamental right of every citizen and it cannot be ignored.

The most important turning point in this case came when the court handed over the investigation directly to IG Vikas Vaibhav. This is considered an unusual decision, because the court expressed confidence by taking the name of an officer. Vikas Vaibhav has been given complete freedom to form SIT. It is believed that now this team will re-examine the old evidence. Call detail records, postmortem report, closure of CCTV and Panchayat dispute… there will be a fresh investigation into every aspect.

This is the biggest question before the new SIT. Was it suicide or a planned murder? Many evidences may have weakened in five years, but efforts will be made to reach the truth through technical investigation and old records. The court has also indicated that the role of the officers involved in the earlier investigation may also be reviewed. This means that now the investigation will not be limited to just the incident, but the investigation process will also be under investigation.
