Big blow to BJP just before the elections, Chandra Kumar Bose, great grandson of Netaji Subhash Bose, joins TMC.
Kolkata: Just before the West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP has suffered a big setback. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s great-grandson Chandra Kumar Bose on Sunday resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). This incident has created a stir in the politics of Bengal.
What did Chandra Kumar Bose say after joining TMC?
As soon as he joined TMC, Chandra Kumar Bose said, “Now I will serve the people of Bengal in collaboration with Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.” He called joining BJP his ‘historic mistake’.
He said that if the sole objective of a party is to create communal division and polarization among the people to win elections, then I can never accept it. Communalism cannot be fought with communalism. We must protect the unity of the nation by uniting all communities.
Sharp criticism on SIR
Chandra Kumar Bose also strongly criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) going on in West Bengal. He claimed that the names of about 90 lakh people in the state have been removed from the voter list, which includes many genuine voters.
He appealed to civil society, social workers and progressive people to raise their voice on this issue. He said, “The revolutionary people of Bengal will not tolerate this insult silently.”
impact on election environment
This incident happened just a few days before the assembly elections. Voting will be held in two phases in Bengal, in the first phase on 23 April, voting will be held on 152 seats and in the second phase on 29 April, voting will be held on 142 seats. The results will be declared on 4th May.
In the 2021 elections, TMC won 213 seats, while BJP got 77 seats. This time also a tough competition is expected between the two parties. The joining of a big name like Chandra Kumar Bose in TMC is being considered a big political gain for Mamata Banerjee’s party, whereas it is a huge blow for BJP.
